The new Batman drawing (left) is the second part of a two panel diptych. I didn’t start out meaning to do that, but after doing a Catwoman illustration as part of an original art reward, I started thinking of the Batman image and realized that it would be going to the same contributor. I pictured Batman standing over Gotham City and wondered what he might be looking at . . . then I remembered the large studio window behind Catwoman. I decided he’d be looking down on that, making the two panels relate to one another. So I went back into the completed Catwoman piece and—on a rooftop in the distance—I added a tiny silhouetted figure of the Batman. Ultimately, the two became parts of a whole.
